Psychopathological symptoms and their relationship to psychological immunity in healthcare students
Abstrakt: Stres zažívaný v prostredí vysokej školy do značnej miery prispieva k rozvoju psychopatologickej symptomatiky. Študenti zdravotníckych odborov sú vystavení vysokým nárokom počas štúdia, čo vedie k vzniku rôznorodých stresových situácií. V rámci práce sme skúmali výskyt percipovanej záťaže vyplývajúcej z psychopatologických symptómov a sledovali sme ako táto záťaž súvisí s jednotlivými subsystémami psychologickej imunity u študentov zdravotníckych odborov. Výskumný súbor tvorili študenti pregraduálneho štúdia Slovenskej zdravotníckej univerzity (N = 210) vo veku 19 až 35 rokov (M = 21,18; SD = 2,81). Testová batéria pozostávala z položiek na zistenie základných demografických údajov, Inventára psychologickej imunitnej kompetencie a inventára SCL-90®-S. Naše výsledky ukázali, že klinicky významné symptómy psychopatológie aktuálne vníma vysoký podiel študentov (80,95%). Konkrétne symptómy anxiety percipovalo 60,95%, depresie 65,71% a neistoty v sociálnom kontakte 70,48% študentov. Výsledky taktiež potvrdili štatisticky významnú negatívnu koreláciu medzi psychologickou imunitou a aktuálnou psychickou záťažou. Naše zistenia slúžia aj pre podporu validity Modelu psychologického imunitného systému a korešpondujú so závermi doposiaľ realizovaných zahraničných štúdií.

Abstract: Stress experienced in the university environment contributes greatly to the development of psychopathological symptomatology. Students in health disciplines are exposed to high demands during their studies, which leads to the emergence of various stressful situations. In this study, we investigated the occurrence of perceived burden resulting from psychopathological symptoms and observed how this burden is related to different subsystems of psychological immunity. The study population consisted of undergraduate students from the Slovak Medical University (N = 210) aged 19 to 35 years (M = 21.18; SD = 2.81). The test battery consisted of questions to ascertain basic demographic data, the Psychological Immune Competence Inventory, and the SCL-90®-S inventory. Our results showed that a high proportion of students in our study population currently perceived clinically significant symptoms of psychopathology (80.95%), specifically symptoms of anxiety (60.95%), depression (65.71%), and interpersonal sensitivity (70.48%). The results also confirmed a statistically significant negative correlation between psychological immunity and current psychological distress. Our findings also serve to support the validity of the Psychological Immune System Model and correspond with the findings of the foreign studies conducted so far.
