Internet - a source of health information for the adult population

Abstract:
Introduction: The use of information and communication technologies (ICT) is becoming more expansive and affects many areas of human life. People of all ages have ICT and often use virtual internet space to search for information in the context of health.
Aim: The article aims to present the results of a survey aimed at determining the use of ICT to search for health information on the Internet in the adult population.
Material and methods: Data collection was carried out through the method of empirical research – a non-standardized questionnaire of own design. The questionnaire was administered online. The survey group consisted of 142 respondents.
Results: The most commonly used type of ICT is the mobile phone. Health problems and medicines dominate the information sought on the Internet. Respondents are less likely to seek information of preventive health examinations, vaccination, disease or injury prevention, selfmonitoring and screening.
Conclusion: ICT as a means of obtaining information in the field of health should be the focus of healthcare professionals and administrators of individual web portals presenting content focused on human health. At the same time as efforts to digitization of society and develop people's digital skills, responsibility for the level of information published on the Internet must be prioritized.
